Varano de’ Melegari is an ancient village in the Ceno valley, dominated by its castle, with a quadrangular plan. The origins of the castle are obscure and not documented, but it is certain that in 1297 it was destroyed because of its belonging to Pallavicino, a proud Ghibelline lineage hostile to the City of Parma.

The Baptistery of Serravalle is one of the oldest Romanesque monuments in the province, dating from the ninth century, octagonal in shape and covered with sandstone slabs, was part of the important site of Serravalle Ceno which also included a castle.

Places of interest are also the Church of San Martino, Borgo di Viazzano, the Riccardo Paletti Autodrome with a circuit of 1.8 km, home of the International Center for Safe Driving.
