ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Power, intrigue, war: the Rossi family has deeply marked the history of Parma, imposing itself as one of the most illustrious families and whose deeds we still read today through the frescoes of the sumptuous Rocca di San Secondo.

The Rocca dei Rossi is now owned by the municipality of San Secondo and is open to guided tours.

It remains the nerve centre of the town and occasionally events are organised inside or in the external courtyard.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE TERRITORY

The village of San Secondo, which boasts a long history as a small capital of Parma, is presented to the eyes of its inhabitants and travelers who pass through here, with the imposing fortress of the Reds at the foot of which spreads a green tree-lined square in front of which depart the ancient villages.

San Secondo was a land of ancient splendour. A land disputed by the strong powers and coveted by the richest families of the tormented Renaissance period. The past often remains engraved, not only in the monuments, but also in the temperament of the generations that follow one another in a territory and perhaps for this reason the native population is characterized by a certain pride of character and strength of spirit.

From the imposing Rocca dei Rossi to the west of the old town, to the fascinating Romanesque parish church of San Genesio, hidden in the surrounding countryside, San Secondo is a small world that contains a great history.
