INFORMATION

An industrial agricultural centre at the foot of the Parma hills, Noceto is bounded to the west by the River Parola which separates it from Fidenza and Salsomaggiore Terme, to the east by the River Taro which separates it from Parma and Collecchio.

Passing through the small town, it is interesting to visit the original remains of the 13th century fortress, the Church of San Martino and the Ferdinando Libassi Museum.

Weekly fixed market: Monday and Thursday.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE TERRITORY

It seems that it was the great abundance of walnut forests that rose on the territory to give the name to Noceto and to make flourish a series of popular legends that often have at the center of the Nocino, the liqueur of the oldest traditions that has become the protagonist of an event that takes place on the last Sunday of September.

Noceto is situated on the slopes of the first hills of the Parma Apennines and its territory is partly flat and partly made up of valleys and plateaus.

The iconographic evidence shows us how Noceto, in ancient times, appeared as an ancient village enclosed within the imposing walls of the fortress: the houses were tightened to each other and from the neighborhood opened the door castellana, which through a drawbridge was a link between the church and the countryside.

During the last century the town has progressively widened to structure itself as it appears today: a centre of about thirteen thousand inhabitants where – from the original nucleus, still identifiable around the Rocca and the Chiesa San Martino, progressively districts have arisen that extend from every side.
