The Pieve di Scurano is situated on the left of the Enza stream where the village of the same name stands, not far from Neviano degli Arduini. Here stands the parish church dedicated to the two Saints Ippolito and Cassiano.  We have to imagine that in ancient times this village was surrounded by impenetrable woods, dense and dark: “obscurus” in Latin, hence the current name.

Without a rectory, the structure has a basilica with three naves and a gabled facade in the front, the roof with two slopes topped by a roof of slate slabs. On the facade is clearly visible the splayed rose window whose top has a small opening in the shape of a cross.

The first evidence of the presence of this church can be found in the document dated 9 March 991, concerning the transfer of some plots of land ”in locas et fundas quae dicitur Scuriano”. Further testimonies also in the document: ” Rotulus Decimaroum ” of 1230.

In the XVIII century the central structure was raised and enlarged together with the two lateral naves; the bell tower, modern compared to the rest of the structure, can be traced back to 1800.

The parish church carried out the function of civil, as well as religious, so as to be able to observe along the walls the presence of a unit of measure, formerly used for local trade. This position, excellent for the market in ancient times, meant that it remained the name “Market” to a cluster of buildings that stands not far from the church.
