The Pieve di Cusignano is located in the first hills of the Apennines, not far from the ancient village of Tabiano Castello, near Monte Manolo. The first mention of which we have evidence is dated 1111, indicated by a double name ”Plebem S. Cassiani and S. Johannis de Cusiano”. In the Decimens of 1230 it appears as “Plebis de Cuxiliano”.

The original structure was in a Romanesque style, lost due to an important intervention dating back to the first half of 1700, as documented in a walled plaque recognizable in the left wall at the back of the church, which gave it the neoclassical appearance observed today.

Inside, some traces of the original architectural style are still visible, identifiable in the 8 purely Romanesque columns in the nave. Oral sources tell of the presence of a crypt connected to the area of the rectory, currently hidden by the flooring of recent manufacture. The bell tower of the parish church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, was built between 1841 and 1886.
