The Pieve di Calice is located in a small basin on the slopes of the homonymous mountain, surrounded by a few houses that make up this hamlet of the municipality of Bedonia. The dedication of the parish church to Sant’Apollinare suggests that the evangelization of the area can be traced back to the Byzantine era, followed by the presence of the missionary work of the monks of the monastery of San Colombano.

In 1014 the church of Calice passed to the bishop of Bobbio. In 1722, with the authorization of Duke Francesco Farnese, the church of Calice became an autonomous parish and remained under the patronage of the Dukes of Parma.

No architectural evidence remains of the ancient parish church due to the continuous reconstruction of the building. The present church has a sober façade in a typical gabled structure, flanked by an agile bell tower built with local stone.

Inside the parish church there is a fragment of a Roman funerary stone, placed on a pair of 15th century white marble pillars. In the apse, a wooden altarpiece with relief figures frames the statue of Sant’Apollinare.

Currently the church depends on the diocese of Piacenza and Bobbio, after the merger of these two in 1989.
