The parish church of Basilicanova has a facade composed of three round arches, surmounted by a Greek cross, covered entirely in brick. In the central part, the three arches, which give access to the portico, are supported by two stone columns, adorned with two capitals. On the sides of the main entrance door there are two side chapels.

The bell tower, dating from the late eighteenth century, has retained its original character. The first evidence of the parish church in the area is present in a parchment dated 6 May 921 when Judge Adalberto, sent by King Berengario to settle a dispute between some local owners and the chapter of the Cathedral, erected his court ”suptus arbore pyro prope ecclesiam Sancti Joannis, qui dicitur Basilicanova” (under a pear tree, near the church of San Giovanni, in Basilicanova).

Inside, the structure is composed of a predominant central nave, raised by a series of cross vaults, decorated with recent frescoes, dating back to 1900. Following a fire in 1334, the original church, probably dating back to the seventh or eighth century, was completely destroyed and rebuilt. In 1915 some interventions were made that completely modified it, giving it the neo-Byzantine style that we see today.
