The Taro River Park extends like a long natural corridor along the entire course of the Taro River over an area of about 2500 hectares between the municipalities of Noceto, Parma, Medesano and Collecchio. The migratory birdlife exploits the Taro Valley as an airway to cross the Padania and arrive in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

In the oasis have been reported more than two hundred species of birds, such as the common tern, the little tern, the big-eyed, the small courier that nest in the shores of the river Taro, others, such as night heron and egret, prefer the riparian forests, while in the more sheltered swamps spend the winter many species of ducks that find here an ideal place to spend the winter.

Willows and poplars grow where the river takes on the characteristic structure of interwoven canals while where the waters are surrounded by marsh reeds grow tife and reeds; in the dry meadows grows lush Coriaria myrtifolia, present in Emilia-Romagna only along the course of the Taro.
