The Regional Park of Stirone and Piacenziano develops on the sides of the Stirone stream and is divided into two macro-areas: that of Stirone and that of Piacenziano. The Stirone area extends from La Villa, which is located upstream, to the bridge over the Via Emilia in Fidenza.

In the park there are three different morphological types: the central area occupied by the stream, where we find a river landscape with wooded areas, laterally to the river instead we have a more agrarian landscape with cultivated fields, while the area of Monte Combu and Monte Santo Stefano looks like a landscape typical of the first hills of the Apennines.

The Piacenziano area, on the other hand, is divided into nine zones, which in turn are part of five valleys: Val Vezzeno, Val Chero, Val Chiavenna, Valle dell’Arda and Valle Ongina. All the areas that make up the Protected Area coincide with habitats of considerable importance and to seal the high level of biodiversity is the presence of two SCI sites (Sites of Community Interest).

The sites classified as SCI are the Stirone stream and the Castell’Arquato-Lugagnano Val d’Arda. The banks and artificial lakes of the Stirone stream are home to numerous species of migratory birds such as the grey heron, the mallard and the moorhen, while many other mammals live in the forests, such as the Savi’s vole, the hedgehog, the badger and the squirrel.
