Of American origin, the tomato has found in the province of Parma a homeland of adoption. The territory has not been limited to cultivation, but has also been oriented towards processing, so much so that today tomato-based products are exported all over the world, but also technology for the canning industry.

The museum is located in the courtyard of Giarola, in a medieval centre for food processing.

The exhibition is organized into seven sections: the history of the tomato, the development of the processing industry in Parma, the development of production technologies, the finished product, packaging (with a collection of 105 different brands of milk) and communication, the development of the mechanical industry, the protagonists and the work in the factory, the culture of the ‘Tomato World’, with objects, quotations, paintings and recipes.
