In an area rich in castles and Verdi’s memories, in the shadow of the Rocca Meli Lupi of Soragna, stands the museum that sings the ‘king of cheeses’. Known and appreciated all over the world, it has ancient origins: already in the middle of the 14th century Boccaccio mentions it in his Decameron and the first to confirm its typicality was the Duke of Parma Ranuccio II Farnese on 7 August 1612, the date that marks the beginning of the history of the Denomination of Origin, now recognized in Europe.

More than 120 objects dating back to between 1800 and the first half of the 20th century and about a hundred images, drawings and photos from that period make up the nucleus of this museum, a real ‘museum in the museum’ because the building has been used for centuries for the production of cheese. Circular in shape with a colonnade built by Prince Casimiro Meli Lupi around 1848, the dairy was active until 1977 and still tells the sublime art of cheese makers.
