The city of Parma is crossed by the Parma torrent; “torrent”, so we should say “the” Parma torrent, male. But in Parma it has always been said “the” Pärma, feminine.

Parma is called “voladora”, meaning that it flies quickly towards the Po. If you visit Parma in summer you will see a torrent in the dry, at the limit a stream of water, but in winter, when it rains a lot and the water comes down from the mountains, and rolls, fast, dark and powerful, “Parma” is scary.

We advise you to walk along the Lungoparma, to pass from one side of the stream to the other on one of the ten bridges; you might also be lucky to see a roe deer grazing the grass in the river bed, in the city. Stop near the Ponte di Mezzo, in the underpass between the streets Mazzini, Toscanini and Mariotti: there you can visit the remains of the Roman Bridge.

Following “la Parma”, but in the opposite direction to the “voladora”, go from the plain towards the hill and the mountain: on one side of the stream, towards Arola, Torrechiara, Langhirano, Castrignano, Cozzano and Beduzzo, or on the other side, towards Lesignano de’ Bagni, Neviano degli Arduini and Tizzano.
