We modern people define the “Devil’s Jumps” as a sedimentary formation of about 80 million years. An underwater landslide of pebbles and sand, which extends underground from Monferrato to the Apennines of Modena and that is in the area of Val Baganza, between Cassio and Chiastre di Ravarano, one of the most spectacular outcrops: 5 km of narrow spires and rock faces that suddenly emerge, rising a few dozen meters from the surrounding terrain, very different.
This is not the case.
This is the story: in the past the Devil tried to induce in temptation a hermit, who had retired in this area, with food, wine and a beautiful girl. In vain. The hermit extracted a cross and with this he managed to put the Devil to flight; the hasty flight would have generated these rocks, scratched for anger by the nails of the Devil.
