ROSONE – ROSE WINDOW: circular opening in the Romanesque and Gothic churches, located in the facade above the entrance.
STILOFORO – STYLOPHORUS: it is said of an architectural element (often in the shape of a lion) that supports a column; often we find lions at the base of prothyruses of Romanesque churches.
STROMBATO – SPLAYED: adjective referring to doors and windows that have a more ambicious opening towards the outside than towards the inside.
TIBURIO – LANTERN: architectural structure that encloses the dome from the outside.
TIMPANO – TYMPANUM: space included in the frame of the pediment.
TRANSETTO – TRANSEPT: aisle that crosses perpendicularly the longitudinal aisle of a church (in this way we have a church with a “Latin cross”).
VELA – RIB VAULT: in the cross vault, the triangular space in which the surface is divided.
VOLTA – VAULT: architectural structure used to cover the spaces.
