The origins of the city of Parma are very ancient and date back to the Palaeolithic, they were found on the hills of Traversetolo and in the mountain basin of the river Taro.
With the Congress of Vienna Parma was influenced by the Duchy of Maria Luigia of Austria, second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, since 2003 Parma is home to the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA). In December 2015, she was awarded the title of UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
