ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The resort is situated in an area of great cultural, naturalistic and gastronomic interest. The centre of the village is characterized by the remains of an ancient castle, Romanesque churches and historical buildings. It is the reference point for the entire Taro Valley, which attracts many visitors every year with its castles and nature trails. The tasty porcini mushroom, bearing the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) quality mark, is the pride of the local gastronomy. As evidence of the high quality of life, the country has been included in the circuit of CittaSlow.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE TERRITORY

The autumn period is probably the richest, thanks to the events that take place and the gastronomic offer, with the famous Porcini Festival. In the spring and summer months, the gentle hills and mountains are tinged with greenery and wild flowers, the mild climate allows pleasant walks along the paths, through forests and clear streams, animated by the typical fauna of the Parma Apennines.

The historical centre preserves the remains of the ancient castle, of which part of the original masonry remains today. Of considerable importance is the Romanesque church of Sant’Antonino, dating back to the early 1200s; its interior houses a precious Serassi organ, which is still working today. Among the important buildings, the historic Palazzo Boveri, where the Queen of Spain, Elisabetta Farnese, resided during her visit in 1714, is worth mentioning. On that occasion it was decorated with numerous stucco friezes still preserved.

The Taro Valley and the adjacent Ceno Valley contain many ancient towns and villages, including Bedonia (13 km), Albareto (9 km), Compiano (11 km) and Bardi (30 km). Astronomy enthusiasts will not miss a visit to the Planetarium of Bedonia, part of the Episcopal Seminary complex. Those who want to continue to enjoy the typicality of the area can make a stop in the historic village of Albareto, located along the “Road of the Porcini Mushroom”. Compiano, surrounded by ancient walls and Bardi, with its imposing medieval fortress, complete a gastronomic and cultural journey without straying too far from Borgotaro.
